EuroCham Garment Advocacy Group meets the Union Minister of Labour, Immigration and Population
As a follow up to our previous meeting on the 28th of March, U Thein Swe, Union Minister for Labour, Immigration and Population along with U Maung Maung Aye (Director General - Social Security Board), U Nyunt Win (Director General - Factories and Labour Laws Inspection Department), U Maung Maung Than (Deputy Permanent Secretary - Office of the Minister), U Aung Htay Win (Deputy Director General - Department of Labor), U Tin Ko Ko Naing (Deputy Director General - Department of Labor Relations), and Daw Theingi Ye Tun (Director - Office of the Minister) received EuroCham Garment Advocacy Group. EuroCham delegation was represented by EuroCham Executive Director, Filip Lauwerysen, Garment Advocacy Group Co-Chairs, Tobias Fischer and Icy Liu, Garment Advocacy Group Member, Jeroen Herms, Garment Advocacy Officer, Pietro Mantilla, and Government Affairs Manager Khin Soe Htaik.
EuroCham, previous to the meeting, sent a report-analysis on the garment sector, focusing on the importance of the EBA and the industry development. This report set the ground for the discussion between the two parties. In particular, EuroCham presented and emphasised the importance of adopting labour laws according to international standards, not only for maintaining the EBA status in the country but also for a sustainable development of the sector. The two parties have agreed to keep the dialogue on and to keep collaborating on labour related matters.
