EuroCham Myanmar Joins Labeling Guideline Public Consultation Workshop

EuroCham Government Affairs Manager U Htet Aung Khine, Senior Business Development Officer U Phyoe Wai Khant and Business Development Associate U Lwin Phone Aung participated in Labeling Guideline Public Consultation Workshop organized by Department of Consumer Affairs and USAID at UMFCCI Office on 10 September 2019 (Tuesday) from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Mingalar Hall, UMFCCI, Yangon.

Deputy Director General of Consumer Affairs Department U Myint Cho opened the event and Director U Ye Htut Naing presented highlights of the draft labeling guidelines prepared by the Department and invited feedbacks of the participants. Chapter (18) focusing on standard labeling requirements is a part of Consumer Protection Law enacted by the Union Parliament on 15 March 2019, and the objective of the requirement is to ensure that consumers are well-informed on the essential information about consumer goods before they are consumed or used.  The deadline for manufacturers and importers to have changed their labels is the 15th of March in 2020.
The Consumer Affairs Department, during the event, affirmed that it will start taking actions, starting from 16 March 2020, against the products that do not follow this regulation.
