EuroCham Myanmar attends 3rd Myanmar Textile Summit 2019
EuroCham Myanmar representatives, including Executive Director, Marc de la Fouchardiere, Garment Advocacy Officer, Aleksandar Davids, and Policy & Strategy Officer, May Thant Lwin, attended the 3rd Myanmar Textile Summit 2019, on 30 October 2019. The Summit is a two-day event which is held at Sedona Hotel in Yangon. It is organized by Myanmar Garment Manufacturers Association (MGMA) and ECV International. The Summit brings the main highlight on Myanmar textile and apparel market in 2019, government’s initiatives and planning for textile and apparel industries, opportunities and challenges. Executive Director of EuroCham Myanmar gave a presentation about the impact of the EU’s GSP on the Myanmar garment sector. He reiterated the importance of quota- and tariff-free access for Myanmar to the EU’s Internal Market and how the country has made progress on contentious topics, whilst other issues remain. In a call to all actors in the domestic garment sector, he highlighted how proper, individual, country-specific due diligence plays a paramount role in doing business in Myanmar, and how business associations and forums send to support the retainer of the GSP through transparency and accountability.
