Yangon Region Chief Minister gave insights on Yangon as a commercial hub at EuroCham Advocacy Networking Event

EuroCham organized an Advocacy Networking Event for EU companies at the EU residence, on 20th October 2016. It was attended by Yangon Region Chief Minister U Phyo Min Thein with his wife, Daw Khin Mi Mi Kywe, EU Ambassador Roland Kobia with his wife Laura Condemi and Yangon Government Ministers: Col. Tin Aung Tun, Minister of Security & Border Affairs, U Myint Thaung, Minister of Planning and Finance, U Han Htoon, Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Forestry & Energy, Daw Nilar Kyaw, Minister of Electricity, Industry, Transport & Communication, U Maung Maung Soe, Minister of Development Affairs, U Naing Ngan Lin, Minister of Social Affairs, Daw Naw Pan Thinzar Myo, Minister of Karen Ethnic Affairs, U Zaw Aye Maung, Minister of Rakhine Ethnic Affairs, Mr. Jaime Garcia-Legaz Ponce, Spanish Minister of State for Trade and representatives from European companies.

This event was the first signature event in the recent history of EuroCham Myanmar and the launching event for EuroCham Advocacy Services for European companies. During the event, Yangon Region Chief Minister gave a presentation on the economic vision for Yangon as an important commercial hub and invited European companies in upgrading 29 industrial zones which need sustainable power supply, better infrastructure and effective waste management. He welcomed more FDI from European companies which possess high technology in the respective sectors: Trade and Logistics infrastructures, Industrial Areas Development, Urban Public Transportation Development, Sustainable Urban Development and Energy Sector Development.

Following the Chief Minister’s presentation, a question & answer session was opened and some company representatives had the opportunity to enquire Yangon Chief Minister on some of the ideas exposed in his presentation. It was a unique opportunity for European companies to have direct communication with government representatives.

Organizers and attendants acknowledged the success of the event and highlighted the unique opportunity given to the companies to share time and exchange ideas with the Yangon Chief Minister and his team.
