On Monday 18th May, EuroCham Myanmar organised an online talk on European Economic Diplomacy with H.E Kristian Schmidt, EU Ambassador to Myanmar attended by more than35 country representatives of European companies in Myanmar.
The event was initiated to establish a regular consultation platform between the EU Delegation and EuroCham advocacy members, to exchange their respective insights on the current economic and political situation in Myanmar, and particularly the EU-Myanmar relations, as well as the challenges and opportunities EU businesses are facing during the unprecedented global situation.
On that occasion, the EU Ambassador to Myanmar touched upon the following points:
- COVID-19 general economic impact and outlook,
- Analysis and views on Government’s “CERP” COVID19 Economic Recovery Plan,
- EU development cooperation / #TeamEurope response, including updates on Myan Ku,
- EBA/GSP state of play,
- Rationale and impact of EU decision to list Myanmar under the Anti-Money laundering directive,
- Consular issues.
The EU Ambassador introduction was followed by a tour de table to present a briefing from the different sectors represented among EuroCham Myanmar Advocacy Groups.
The Advocacy Groups and EuroCham Members could then hear the EU Ambassador’s feedback on some points addressed during the briefing and on some questions asked on that occasion.
