Season's Greetings

Dear reader,

On behalf of the EuroCham team, I would like to wish you a merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous New Year!

The European Chamber of Commerce in Myanmar proudly concludes its first year of operations. We have provided country briefings to visiting delegations from many EU member states, promoted Myanmar as a place for doing business to European countries at home and in Asia, and developed a number of publications and advocacy groups to help European companies succeed in this fascinating frontier market.

Business Support Guides

Our Business Support Guides provide companies - especially SMEs - with up-to-date market intelligence on Myanmar. We published a general Business Guide and five sectoral guides on agriculture, consumer goods, energy, health care and manufacturing. These guides are available for free at

Business Confidence Survey

With our first Business Confidence Survey, we provided key insights into the current business environment in Myanmar, as experienced by European companies. EuroCham conducted this research in order to better understand which sectors are represented here and how the companies feel about doing business in Myanmar, as this information is a key economic indicator for the business outlook of the country.

Despite the challenges of operating in an emerging market, 50% of the European companies are already profitable and almost 10% are significantly exceeding their budgeted profit expectations. See the full report on our website for more key findings.

EuroCham has proven to be a trustworthy and transparent private-sector consultation platform for the new government of Myanmar. We have opened many doors for our advocacy members to engage in dialogue with government authorities, to help develop mutual understanding. More and more European companies are approaching us, as they see the value of our advocacy services. Three advocacy groups - Energy, Construction and Infrastructure, and Logistics - have already been formed, with many more to come in 2017. Get in touch to constructively contribute to an investment-friendly climate in Myanmar.

Many thanks to our strong network of partners in Europe, Southeast Asia and Myanmar for your support and cooperation this year! And thank you also to our partner members, members and clients for the trust you have placed in us. We are looking forward to working with you and continuing our support for European businesses in Myanmar and the wider region in 2017.

Best wishes,

Filip Lauwerysen
Executive Director
