Impacts of the Current Events on the European Business Community 5th Survey

Since February 2021, EuroCham Myanmar has launched its bi-monthly Business Confidence Survey to continuously monitor the business climate on the ground and the impact of the current events on the European business community in Myanmar. Aiming to capture the latest trends and developments of the operational environment, we have conducted the fifth round of the survey in December 2021, participated by nearly half of EuroCham Myanmar members from different industries. The key findings from this fifth edition of the survey can be summarized as follows:

  • Banking issues have remained the biggest operational challenge for the vast majority of the companies since the second half of 2021. It is closely followed by safety and security concerns surrounding the current situation.
  • Compared to the previous rounds of the survey in early 2021, the increased concern for the uncertainty around regulatory issues is reported by 40% of the respondents in December as there are changes in the regulations on import licenses and permits, etc.
