With increased legal and societal expectations of sustainability and human rights good practices by companies, a solid understanding of Heightened Human Rights Due Diligence (HHRDD) is essential for companies doing business in Myanmar. On 14 November 2024, EuroCham Myanmar, in partnership with Myanmar Centre for Responsible Business and Yever, will host a session titled “From Soft Law to Hard Law: What Companies Operating in Myanmar Need to Know about HHRDD.” This event will pay particular attention to recent legislation, including the EU’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD).
Participants will benefit from practical insights shared by industry experts, including Vicky Bowman, Director of MCRB, and Nicolas Delange, Managing Director of Yever, who are together embarking on a project funded by IDE/JETRO to develop guidance on supply chain due diligence in conflict affected areas for Myanmar, targetted at Japanese companies. They will share lessons learned from supporting companies in implementing HHRDD. The session will conclude with an interactive exercise by EuroCham Myanmar CEO Karina Ufert to gauge participants’ understanding and expectations regarding HHRDD implementation in Myanmar, aligned with emerging legal standards.
This event is part of our ongoing webinar series, “Heightened Due Diligence Myanmar: Guidance for Business,” co-hosted by EuroCham Myanmar and the Myanmar Centre for Responsible Business. The series offers comprehensive guidance to international businesses on conducting responsible business practices in Myanmar’s unique operational landscape.
