Chief Executive Officer

Chief Executive Officer

Location: Yangon, Myanmar, with occasional international travel.
Contract Type: Full-time, international contract.
Application Deadline: 2nd June 2025.
Start Date: as early as possible.

About EuroCham Myanmar

The European Chamber of Commerce in Myanmar (EuroCham Myanmar) is the leading platform for European businesses operating in Myanmar, representing 165 European Companies, active in the market. As a member-driven organization, we provide trusted intelligence, advocacy, and business support services that enable responsible trade and investment even in a complex and evolving environment.

Following four years of successful stabilization and growth, we are now seeking a new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead EuroCham Myanmar into its next chapter.

The Role

We are looking for a strategic, diplomatic, and forward-thinking leader to serve as CEO of EuroCham Myanmar. This is not a traditional top-down executive position. With strong operational management already in place, the CEO will focus on external engagement, institutional positioning, long-term strategy, policy development and sustainable income generation to ensure the Chamber remains financially independent and member driven.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in high-stakes, geopolitically sensitive contexts and is capable of navigating both European institutional environments and complex local realities.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Governance

  • Set and communicate EuroCham Myanmar’s long-term strategic direction, in close consultation with the Board and senior management team.
  • Develop, monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the Chamber’s positioning, policies, advocacy and activities.
  • Safeguard the Chamber’s mission and independence amid shifting political and economic dynamics.

Stakeholder Relations & Representation

  • Represent EuroCham Myanmar to EU institutions (DG TRADE, DG INTPA, DG GROW), international forums, diplomatic missions, and ASEAN counterparts.
  • Cultivate trusted relationships with key stakeholders in Yangon, Bangkok, Brussels, and beyond, including UMFCCI, the EU Delegation, EBO WWN, and international organizations such as UN agencies, the ILO, OECD, and World Bank.

Organizational Stewardship

  • Provide high-level leadership while empowering internal management (COO and CSPO) to lead day-to-day operations.
  • Coordinate executive reporting, Board communication, and internal strategic alignment.

Risk Management & Business Continuity

  • Anticipate reputational, political, and financial risks impacting the Chamber and its members.
  • Ensure continuity and adaptability of the organization in a fluid environment, including pre- and post-2025 electoral scenarios.

Legacy & Growth

  • Leverage the Chamber’s current strength to unlock new partnerships, income streams, and value-added services to maintain self-sufficiency.
  • Guide the evolution of EuroCham Myanmar’s business model to support future expansion when conditions permit.

Ideal Profile

Must-Have

  • Strong business acumen and a clear understanding of how private sector organizations operate, including experience with income generation and financial self-reliance.
  • Demonstrated ability to professionally and convincingly advocate the Chamber’s positions regarding responsible business conduct in Myanmar, including when facing opposing views or challenging environments.
  • Proven track record of public representation at conferences, panels, and high-level stakeholder engagements.
  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in business, public administration or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Prior work experience in Southeast Asia with strong preference for experience in Myanmar.
  • Deep familiarity with EU institutional processes and stakeholder engagement.
  • Deep understanding of reputational risk management, sanctions compliance, and stakeholder expectations related to doing business in Myanmar.

Preferably

  • Board management and governance experience.
  • Proven record for engaging, partnering, and building alliances with a wide range of constituencies, including business leaders, elected officials, media and other stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with EU sustainability regulations (e.g., CSDDD, CSRD) and their implications for international business in fragile states.
  • Established network of contacts within EU institutions and other stakeholders.
  • Comfort working in a lean, agile organizational environment with distributed leadership.

What We Offer

  • A meaningful leadership role at the intersection of European business and geopolitical complexity.
  • Yangon-based contract with accommodation.
  • A collaborative working culture with a high-performing internal management team.
  • The opportunity to shape EuroCham Myanmar’s future at a pivotal moment in Myanmar’s political and the Chamber’s institutional journey.
