Briefing on Energy Situation in Myanmar – The Way Forward
On 6th June 2023, EuroCham Myanmar hosted an informative briefing on “Energy Situation in Myanmar 2023 – the way forward” in collaboration with our members DFDL, Mandalay Yoma and Théo Millet, an external energy expert from Thanlwin Legal.
During the discussion, Theo shared the situation of the energy sector, including anticipated and actual investments in different types of energy supply in terms of coal, hydro, gas and solar to meet the growing industry and consumer demand. He concluded in favour of solar energy installations to bridge the energy gap for consumers.
Furthermore, Surath Bhattacharya from DFDL provided the regulatory and policy overview related to the energy sector and provided insights on the level of foreign investment. In continuation, Luigi Carlini from Mandalay Yoma presented insightful details about solar energy cost savings amid frequent power cuts and how it leads to sustainable development, like 97200 Kg of CO2 savings, equivalent to 114 acres of forest in one year.
