Recommendations for Improving Business Climate by EuroCham Myanmar
On 28th July, EuroCham Myanmar, along with the members of various advocacy groups, met with the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI) as a part of an ongoing dialogue to advocate for improvements in the business operating environment for European companies.
During the meeting, representatives from the consumer goods, logistics, energy, agrobusiness, energy, and health sectors openly discussed the current challenges and the necessary facilitation to improve the operational business environment. With the indication of the banking and regulatory issues as the top operational challenges according to the 11th Business Confidence Survey, the discussion mainly evolved around easing import restrictions for raw materials and finished goods, such as agricultural inputs, solar panel appliances, and medical supplies. Another discussion area concerned illicit trade, a growing concern for many industries, particularly from the competitiveness and consumer protection point of view. The discussion also touched upon the efforts of both sides to enable employee-worker dialogue, particularly in the manufacturing sector, and the need for adjusting remuneration to support workers through the cost of living crisis.
Members are welcome to approach EuroCham Myanmar to raise specific issues or suggestions for the escalation process in the respective areas.
EuroCham Myanmar remains dedicated to working closely with the strategic stakeholders to drive the responsible business agenda and enable a business environment that creates decent jobs and benefits local communities.
