EuroCham Myanmar Shares Insights on Garment Sector at Korea Garments Association Annual Meeting
On 23rd February 2024, EuroCham Myanmar participated in the Korea Garments Association in Myanmar (KOGAM) Annual Meeting, presenting European business sentiments in Myanmar.
Representing EuroCham Myanmar, Mr. Thet Zaw Htwe, the Head of Policy and Strategy, shared the highlights of EuroCham Myanmar’s work on garments as well as guidance for brands and manufacturers based on our Garment Sector Factsheet.
The presentation focused on maintaining heightened due diligence practices, particularly in the context of the conscription law announced in February. Thet also emphasized the necessity of effective grievance mechanisms and sustained engagement with the trade unions. These measures are essential for safeguarding responsible business practices and ensuring the continuity of operations and sourcing activities in Myanmar.
Korea Garment Association in Myanmar represents over 100 manufacturers, a significant number of whom are suppliers to EU markets. EuroCham Myanmar finds it paramount to engage manufacturers in discussions on navigating the uncertain business climate, protecting workers’ rights, and safeguarding investments. EuroCham Myanmar looks forward to continued engagement with KOGAM in this endeavor.
