EuroCham Myanmar Hosts 5th HR Working Group Meeting: Addressing HR Challenges Amidst Uncertainty

On 1st of March 2024, EuroCham Myanmar held the 5th HR Working Group Meeting at its office in Yangon. The hybrid meeting brought together 51 HR representatives from member companies both in person and online to exchange ideas and discuss current challenges in the HR sector.

The HR representatives discussed pressing topics such as tracking inflation for salary adjustment and the impact of activating the People’s Military Service Law. Moreover, members expressed interest in regular, independent data collection to manage salary and benefits for employees more effectively.

Acknowledging the potential talent scarcity, the working group proposed a cross-internship program for youth to provide training and work placement experience across companies. The framework for this program will be circulated among interested companies to move towards implementation.

Despite ongoing challenges and uncertainties within the country, the HR Working Group remains committed to strengthening collaboration, addressing challenges, and driving meaningful initiatives for HR sector development. The next HR Working Group Meeting is scheduled for the first week of May 2024. It will focus on talent management amidst a challenging environment, including an in-depth discussion on People’s Military Service Law.
