EuroCham Myanmar organised Ambassador’s Briefing as part of the initiative to facilitate enhanced engagement between the EU Delegation and members of EuroCham Myanmar
On 10th October 2024, EuroCham Myanmar organised a Briefing with H.E. Mr. Ranieri Sabatucci, the Ambassador of the European Union to Myanmar, as part of the initiative to facilitate enhanced engagement between the EU Delegation and members of EuroCham Myanmar. This quarterly Ambassador’s Briefing provided an insightful platform for a deeper understanding of the current geopolitical landscape, the role of the EU and the outlook in terms of EU policy on Myanmar. Ambassador Sabatucci also underscored the importance of European companies adhering to the principles of responsible business conduct, including a commitment to decent wages and greater transparency about their Myanmar operations.
Building on the Ambassador’s remarks, Ms. Karina Ufert, CEO of EuroCham Myanmar, shared the highlights of its 15th Business Confidence Survey. EuroCham Myanmar is conducting this quarterly survey to capture the sentiments of European investors in Myanmar. The survey will be officially launched next week, but its early highlights include growing concern about the cost of operating in Myanmar, among other challenges. Having said that, the majority of European investors, who are members of EuroCham Myanmar, remain committed to the Myanmar market.
Moreover, regarding EuroCham Myanmar‘s recent flood relief fundraising campaign, two trusted implementation partners, Community Partners International (CPI) and Medical Action Myanmar (MAM), also presented their ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts to assist the people struggling with the aftermath of Typhoon Yagi. We are proud that we raised MMK 370 million in cash and MMK 257 million in in-kind contributions, with donation certificates awarded to donor companies in recognition of their generous support for flood-affected livelihoods across the country.
We extend our sincere gratitude to H.E. Mr. Ranieri Sabatucci for his commitment to supporting responsible businesses and protecting livelihoods in Myanmar, as well as to the implementation partners and our members for their commitment to driving a meaningful impact on the community in Myanmar.
