Energy situation in Myanmar – the way forward

Event Date:

March 24, 2022

Event Time:

2:30 PM

Event Location:

Zoom webinar

On the 24th of March 2022, EuroCham Myanmar will host a briefing on the energy situation in Myanmar. We are delighted to have a speaker of World Bank Myanmar with us to present current issues in regards to electricity.

Each year in the hot season Myanmar sees an increased number of power outages. Due to reliance on hydropower, which makes up 55% of the total power supply in the country, the hot and dry season sees a sharp decline in power supply as there is reduced water levels in dams. Emergency power (LNG) plants which were implemented in the past two years have been put on hold due to higher fuel costs this year. As a result,  Myanmar’s current power situation is worse this year which of course increases costs for households but also industries and businesses.

In this webinar, we will review the current situation, and expert speakers from World Bank and SUNGROW will join to share their insights on where Myanmar is going energy-wise. We will touch upon potential solutions as well, in particular storage options for energy and solar power.

For this event, we are collaborating with our member Mandalay Yoma.
