Explore the recent and long-awaited changes in Myanmar’s IP landscape, including the latest updates on Trademark, Industrial Design and Copyright protection, along with the new E-commerce guidelines.

The protection of IPRs stands as one of the most important mechanisms for securing intangible assets of businesses, enhancing consumer confidence, building new partnerships and even helping to generate new revenues.

Following the Trademark Law enactment in January 2019, Myanmar now fully implemented its “First-to-File Trademark Registration System”, and IP owners are able to file their Trademark applications since April 2023. Alongside the Trademark developments, the Industrial Design Law and the Copyright Law from 2019 also came into full effect in October 2023.

The implementation of these three laws signals a fresh start for the IP landscape in Myanmar, providing all the rights owners with enhanced protection mechanisms under a structured framework.

With E-commerce activities booming in Myanmar, the Ministry of Commerce issued the E-commerce guidelines in September 2023 to regulate this dynamic and new type of industry. These guidelines are of immediate effect for E-commerce business operators, including online shops, with mandatory registration for the businesses engaged in E-Commerce in the country.

In light of these numerous and important updates, the European Chamber of Commerce in Myanmar (EuroCham Myanmar), together with the South-East Asia IP SME Helpdesk, are organising a webinar to provide an update about IP and E-commerce in Myanmar. The purpose of this session is to equip European businesses with insights for navigating in Myanmar’s evolving IPR regulations and protect their intangible assets at an early stage.

Kind note: Company information is requested to ensure the session is tailored effectively to meet the needs and interests of the audience.
