The ARISE Plus Myanmar project aims at supporting inclusive and sustainable trade-led growth in Myanmar
through trade diversification and integration, focusing on direct support to micro, small and medium sized
enterprises (MSMEs). The project is funded by the European Union (EU) and implemented by the International
Trade Centre (ITC).

The Seminar on “Sustainable Trade for Myanmar MSMEs” is organized by ITC in collaboration with the European
Chamber of Commerce (EuroCham) in Myanmar. It is integral part of ARISE Plus Myanmar project activities and
will be followed by several workshops addressing specific issues for building the capacities of the private sector on
sustainable and ethical trade issues.

OBJECTIVES

The Seminar aims at introducing Myanmar MSMEs to the concepts of sustainable trade and corporate
sustainability, related market requirements and new regulations covering social and environmental aspects of
production and trade. The event will also discuss the benefits and challenges for Myanmar MSMEs when
implementing sustainable production practices.

  • The specific objectives of this Seminar are to:
Inform private sector representatives in Myanmar about international, regional, domestic norms/standards
and initiatives regulating and guiding sustainable trade, including as part of the Everything But Arms (EBA)
and EU’s Generalised Scheme of Preferences (GSP).
  • Enhance Myanmar MSMEs’ understanding of the growing importance and benefits of sustainable and
ethical trade requirements, as well as their impact on value chain sustainability.
  • Encourage Myanmar MSMEs to foster changes to increase and maintain their competitiveness in regional
    and international markets.

Participants will include Myanmar MSMEs and private sector stakeholders, international and national experts.

The event will also host booths exhibiting products by Myanmar MSMEs supported by the ARISE Plus Myanmar
project.
